Launched in 2003, the Rainmakers Giving Circle’s mission is to improve the lives of young women and girls in the Washington metropolitan area by supporting programs that foster their empowerment, self-esteem and ability to achieve their full potential. More specifically, the Rainmakers award grants to programs that encourage the development of healthy behaviors and the prevention of risk factors in this target population as well as those that increase their competence in such areas as education, health, interpersonal relations, financial management and employment.
The Circle operates on a two-year cycle. For each of those two years, members over age 35 commit to contribute $2,500 and members age 35 and under contribute $1,000.
To date, the Rainmakers have invested nearly $500,000 in nonprofits supporting young women and girls throughout the Washington metropolitan area.
